About the House of the Year awards
The Registered Master Builders House of the Year awards celebrate the very best in residential building. The competition, judged by a team of experts who visit each home at least once, is divided into two parts. The first is at regional level, with more than 295 properties taking part in 2022. They are awarded a range of quality marks and the Regional Supreme Winners (for both new builds and renovations) are announced at events around the country from July onwards. All of these houses are featured on this website and in regional magazines delivered direct to homes throughout the regions.
From those entries, up to 100 properties will reach Top 100 status and go through to a second round of judging for the national competition.

In November the National House of the Year Awards take place, and the National Supreme winners and House of the Year is announced.
Take a look at our winning homes in this years finals.
TE AWA - The best of both worlds
This 216sqm property ties perfectly into its Napier suburb, with weatherboard cladding, corner boards, timber window surrounds and unique handcrafted corbels on the front and side gables. Stacking sliders in the dining and family rooms opens an entire corner of the house and lead to a covered outdoor patio with a classic battened soffit. Earthy colours have been used throughout the home, but there is flair too. A dusky peach ensuite with terrazzo flooring, a fully tiled shower, and a double vanity create a luxurious space.

Wallpapered and painted feature walls add pops of colour throughout, and the wallpapered ceiling in the entry adds pizazz. The kitchen shows a stone benchtop with a waterfall end, paired with timber LED backlit panels on the front of the island. Textured splash back tiles add a point of interest.
It doesn't take long to realise this traditional four-bedroom home is anything but.
JERVOISTOWN - Works like a charm
This semi-rural 80m2 home on the outskirts of Napier works its charm. Corrugated steel cladding with rough sawn timber window surrounds and Fascias speak the language of the country location. It also features textured splash back tiles, timber overhead cabinets, and a well-placed window seat that adds timeless style. Recycled industrial pendants were salvaged from an old shed on the property and hover over the kitchen island. Two double bedrooms, a walk-in wardrobe in one, the other with a Murphy bed. A bathroom that has a bath, and a fully tiled shower adds extra class.

Everything is here - warmth, character, craftsmanship and excellent design, all in a compact footprint.
